Hit the river today. Normally during the summer on calm mornings you can find large schools of buffalo sucking midges off the surface. I'll stick to calling them midges because I don't know enough about entomology to identify exactly what they are. But a size 18-22 grey foam wing emerger normally gets the job done.
I don't get these fish.... for their size they should fight a whole lot more. I was using a 3weight to catch'em today and a 3/4 to 1 lb bluegill have them beat pretty easily.
Didn't spend to long messing with the buffalo since I needed to make the 3 mile paddle to get to a hole that normally holds some smallmouth. Caught 6 or 7 smallies to 16".
